| Drunk Driver's Car Split in Half during Collision |
| Posted By Phoenix DUI Lawyer |
 |
In the city of Phoenix, a woman has died after a DUI accident that took place near 24th Street during evening hours on Wednesday. Police later identified the driver as 32-year-old Nitza Tlalmanalco-Decidero and say that she is survived by a young daughter as well as an ex-husband.
Nitza Tlalmanalco-Decidero worked at the Baiz Marketplace inside the city of Phoenix,
According to neighbors who witnessed the accident, they heard a loud pop and when they looked outside they saw the car split in half. The vehicle had hit upon tree after crashing into the center median and the impact was so strong that the very top of the tree fell down.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the DUI accident and had to be transported to a local hospital where medical professionals pronounced her dead. Police believe that speed, impairment and the weather all played a role in the fatality.

| Signs of Drunk Driving |
| Posted By Phoenix DUI Lawyer |
 |
There are several indicators police look for when determining whether or not to pull someone over on suspicion of drunk driving. These suspicious driving patterns include:
- Straddling two lanes
- Driving extremely slowly
- Making abnormally large turns
- Braking erratically
- Constantly speeding up or slowing down
- Not being able to drive in a straight line
- Running a red light or rolling through a stop sign
- Drifting
- Almost hitting another car or almost striking a stationary object
Once an officer has noticed at least one or two of these driving patterns, there is reasonable cause to believe the driver could be intoxicated, and therefore the officer has the right to pull the driver over to further investigate the situation. As the officer approaches the driver, there are several more signs the officer will look for to determine if the driver is intoxicated. These are physical signs, and include:
- The smell of alcohol on the breath
- Flushed cheeks
- Glassy or bloodshot eyes
- Slurred speech
- Inability to walk straight
- Difficultly following instructions or answering questions
- Disheveled appearance
If the officer notices any of these signs, there is a good chance he'll arrest the driver for DUI right then and there. He may ask the driver to submit to a field sobriety test or breath or blood test, but at that point the officer has usually made his or her decision to arrest the driver.

| Phoenix Police Officer Faces Drunk Driving Charges |
| Posted By Phoenix DUI Lawyer |
 |
A Phoenix police officer has been charged with
DUI and failure to obey an officer following a incident that took place January 3.
At about 10:30 a.m. on January 3, a Gilbert police officer found Seth Samuel Castillo of the Phoenix Police Department slumped over the passenger seat, unconscious behind the wheel of this jeep. The Gilbert officer made several attempts to rouse Castillo but to no avail. Once Castillo woke up, the officer ordered him to step out of the car and place his hands on the hood of the vehicle.
In his report the officer said Castillo made a motion like he was reaching for something around his wasit, instead of putting them on the vehicle. Fearing that Castillo was reaching for a weapon and unaware that he was a police officer, the officer tasered Castillo. It wasn't until Castillo had fallen to the ground that he told the officer he was an off-duty Phoenix police officer.
Castillo eventually admitted that he had consumed two 24-ounce beers and took Ritalin, a prescription drug. Lab results indicated Castillo's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident was .172, more than twice the legal limit.
Despite his charges-one for DUI and one for failure to obey an officer-Castillo is still on active duty while both the criminal and internal investigations are underway.

A former NHL hockey player was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of
driving under the influence. He was later booked for DUI and excessive speeding and released pending BAC lab test results.
Early Monday morning an officer with the Scottsdale police department stopped a black Ferrari speeding near Scottsdale Road and Lincoln Road. The driver, later identified as Nikolai Khabibulin, smelled of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking.
The officer conducted a
field sobriety test and later arrested the Phoenix Coyotes goalie for DUI. At this time, it's not known what Khabibulin's blood alcohol concentration was when he was arrested, but blood samples were taken. The results of those samples are still pending.

| Chandler Police Receive Grant Funding for DUI Enforcement |
| Posted By Phoenix DUI lawyer |
 |
Thanks to more than $100,000 from three separate grants, the Chandler Police Department plans "up" its DUI enforcement efforts in the hopes of reducing the number of drunk drivers on the road and DUI accidents.
The grant money came from the state Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
An $80,000 grant will go towards hiring more staff to support DUI arrest patrols and general DUI enforcement throughout the year.
Not only will the money be used to hire new officers and personnel, but a portion of it will go toward paying current officers for additional shifts, as well as for the East Valley DUI Task Force to help more with finding and arresting drunk drivers.
A $12,854 grant will be applied towards purchasing 14 portable breath test units for officers to use during their DUI investigations.
A portion of the grant will also be used to buy medical and safety supplies for the department's phlebotomy program, which is necessary for collecting evidence needed to gauge an impaired driver's blood alcohol concentration level.
Based on this article, you can see that law enforcement is stepping up its game and cracking down hard on DUI offenders. If you are searching for a
