| Posted By Phoenix DUI Lawyer |
 |
On Thursday, police arrested a 30-year-old man from the city of Phoenix after he tried to flee from officers after stealing a vehicle and crashing.
Police say that Jorge Rios had been weaving into the bike lane while driving at 11:00 PM. When an officer decided to run his license plate he found that the car was stolen and tried to pull him over. However, instead of stopping for officers Rios continued to drive at a high rate of speed through stop signs as well as red lights.
Officers and police helicopters followed him until he crashed. He then tried to flee the vehicle, but fell to the ground.
According to law enforcement officers, the car had been stolen in Phoenix and a background check revealed that Rios was driving on a suspended license. Inside of the vehicle police found a pipe and methamphetamines in Rios' pocket. They decided that he was driving under the influence after conducting field sobriety tests.
Now, he is facing charges of theft, possession of drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and driving with a suspended license.

| DUI of Prescription Medication a Growing Problem in Arizona |
| Posted By Phoenix DUI Lawyer |

Mesa Police Officer James Boubelik was recently interviewed by a local news source. He told reporters that when he pulls someone over for driving recklessly, he is looking for signs that indicate the driver is impaired such as the smell of alcohol or the driver slurring his or her speech.
However, the officer said that it's more than just alcohol he is looking for. He is also on the lookout for people who are impaired by illegal drugs and prescription medication. While interviewed, Officer Boubelik said that it can be difficult for police to recognize when a person is under the influence of prescription drugs versus alcohol.
He said, "At first they don't want to tell you anything" about the prescription drugs that they are consuming. He then went on to say, "Then as you start seeing these different signs and symptoms they'll start opening up to you sometimes."
According to this police officer, abuse and misuse of prescription drugs in the state of Arizona is a growing problem and is also an issue that law enforcement agencies are targeting through increased public awareness and training.

In Phoenix, it is reported that the Arizona DUI task forces throughout the state made more than 470 DUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend. The task forces' numbers show that one fourth of the drivers who were arrested were under suspicion of extreme DUI.
On Tuesday, official numbers were released by Governor Jan Brewer's office. The numbers showed that 129 of the 476 DUI arrests that were made involved drivers who had blood alcohol concentrations of .15% or higher, which is almost twice the state's legal limit. In Arizona, if people have blood alcohol concentrations of 0.08% or higher, they are considered to be under the influence.
