Significant Increase in DUI Figures Reported
Although an increase in drunk driving arrests may not seem like a good thing, it does show an increase in the number of intoxicated drivers that were removed from roadways. That is exactly what the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in Arizona is saying this month after releasing the figures for DUI arrests from last year. According to the office, there was a significant increase in DUI arrests when compared to the previous year. In 2010 there were 19, 533 DUI arrests. Last year, 27,125 people were arrested for driving under the influence. In fact, the numbers have been increasing every year since 2003 in all categories including
underage DUI arrests and
extreme DUI arrests.
It should be noted that these numbers do not mean that there are more people drinking and driving. Rather, police in Arizona have been more adept at catching drunk drivers and have had more funds to conduct drunk driving checkpoints.
