Another athlete has been detained on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). Christian Martinez, a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, was pulled over by a police officer in Gwinnett County last week. According to the police report, Martinez was witnessed driving under the speed limit at an alarmingly low rate of speed. When the officer approached his vehicle, the policeman claims it was evident that he was under the influence of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, Martinez was asked to consent to a breathalyzer test. The results of the test confirmed that he was indeed intoxicated, registering a BAC of 0.13%.
In addition to DUI, Martinez was charged with impeding the flow of traffic and improper lane change. At this time, the Braves are not commenting whether he will be allowed to play in upcoming games. Early last year, a fellow Braves player, Derek Lowe, was detained on suspicion of DUI but later had his charges dropped.
