Hit-And-Run Driver Suspected of DUI
Police in Phoenix were surprised to learn that a hit-and-run suspect was a local firefighter.
Earlier this month, a 14-year-old boy was rollerblading in north Phoenix when he was struck by a white pickup truck. Rather than stop to help the victim, the truck was witnessed speeding away from the scene. Luckily, one witness took it upon himself to follow the truck, which helped police identify and arrest the driver.
The 56-year-old firefighter was arrested for leaving the scene of a crime, but police hope to add one more charge to his record: DUI. However, the arresting officers will not be able to charge him with driving under the influence until the results of his toxicology report are returned.
As for the young teen, doctors at a local hospital performed emergency hip surgery. The boy is expected to recover, although he will not be able to walk normally without months of rehabilitation.
