Settlement Offered in DUI Death Case
Although one county did agree to pay a large settlement for the death of one man, it still claims that it was not to blame.
Earlier this year the young victim was taken into custody on DUI charges and probation violation. For some reason, police were forced to subdue the man while in custody. Officers used a Taser, pepper spray and physical restraints on him. The man died shortly after while still in police custody.
While the family originally asked for $6 million, the county agreed to pay a total sum of $1 million. Although several local officials declined comment about the settlement, one man spoke up and said that the city was not to blame for the victim's death. Something about his lifestyle was to blame rather than his treatment by officers while in jail.
