New Bill Would Cut Time for Interlock Device Usage
In the state of Arizona, a new bill is making its way through legislature that will cut the time a DUI interlock device must be used before a convicted DUI offender can start his or her motor vehicle.
At this time, the state requires that all first-time DUI offenders use an interlock device for a year. The interlock devices determine if drivers are drunk and if they are under the influence of alcohol their vehicles do not start.
The new bill would cut the amount of time from one year to six months. Senator Linda Gray says that six months is long enough to punish first time offenders and in Scottsdale, a bill has been introduced that would eliminate the interlock device requirement for first time offenders altogether.
