Governor's Office Announces Increased DUI Patrols

States across the nation are gearing up for the holidays. This means increased patrols and DUI checkpoints to cut down on drunken drivers and alcohol-caused accidents.
The governor's office announced that officers across Arizona would be conducting sober driving campaigns over the holidays. This announcement was to alert drivers that police officers would be out in full force searching for any driver that appears to be intoxicated. One way officers hope to catch impaired drivers is by conducting more checkpoints.
Funding for these checkpoints is provided by federal grants. Some of this grant money was used to purchase special vehicles that will be used just for processing DUI arrests. Six vehicles were purchased for the net sum of $1 million that will be used this month for the first time.
