Defendant Wants Alcohol Monitoring Device Removed
A man who killed a pedestrian in a drunk driving accident is petitioning to have his alcohol-monitoring bracelet removed already.
The 52-year-old man was convicted in the death of a 23-year-old male pedestrian earlier this year. He was outfitted with the monitoring bracelet while he awaited an appeal. Although he was sentenced to thirty years behind bars with fifteen suspended, the judge decided to outfit him with the bracelet while his case was waiting for an appeals hearing.
Now the man wants to have it removed and given his driving privileges back so that he can go to work. Since he is currently using a public defender, the man tried to argue that without a job, he is simply costing taxpayers' money by being cooped up at home all day. The judge did not agree with his argument and denied the request.
