Decrease in DUI Fatalities Reported in Arizona
Recently, the Department of Transportation in Arizona announced that in the year 2010, less people were killed while on the state's roadways.
According to a report issued by the Department of Transportation, 762 people were killed while involved in accidents that took place on state streets, highways and roads. This figure marks a 5% decrease compared to 2009 in which 806 people were killed. Four years ago, the number was even higher at 1,301 fatalities.
A figure that was alarming in the report was that 30% of all fatalities on Arizona roads involved driving under the influence (DUI). While the number is high, police are quick to add that in 2009, 35% of all traffic related deaths involved alcohol. Officers say that the decrease in DUI accidents and deaths can be attributed to the state's legislature cracking down on DUI offenders.
