2011 Country Thunder DUI Task Force Crack Down on Offenders
Officers in Pinal County are taking extreme DUI prevention measures to keep drunk drivers off the road.
Just last week alone, deputies and officers handed out 105 citations. Members of the 2011 Country Thunder DUI Task Force gave out twenty misdemeanor charges, two aggravated DUI charges, one extreme DUI charge, and one charge for
underage DUI. In addition, 29 arrests were made for minor consumption , while 52 additional arrests were made for assorted charges. This task force was created to patrol the four-day music festival of the same name.
According to Sheriff Paul Babeu, "statistics show on average, nationwide, someone is killed every 40 minutes by an impaired driver." In Arizona alone, the average is 2.21 persons per day that lose their lives to drunk driving, whether they themselves are intoxicated or they are struck by an intoxicated individual.
