31 Year Old Charged with DUI and Assault

In Phoenix, a 31 year old man is now facing charged if DUI and aggravated assault.  Police say that while driving drunk, the man crashed his car into a canal.

The canal was located near 67^th Avenue and Buckeye Road.  Police report that the vehicle was seriously damaged and that the accident took place last Friday at around 7:00 PM.  The officer that arrived at the scene of the accident said that three people were inside the car, but after the accident, they fled the scene.  They were later picked up by a person driving a white SUV.

Witnesses that saw the accident gave police a description of the white SUV, which was tracked down a short time later.  When police found the driver of the SUV, he told them where he took the three individuals.  Police went to the address and found all three at the residence with minor injuries. They were all escorted to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the car had a cut on his head and also had a BAC of 0.146%, which is well above the state's legal blood alcohol limit.  Aside from being charged with DUI, the driver is also facing charges for leaving the scene of an accident as well as endangerment.
